A Modern Style hotel in Miami Beach named Barcelona?. Fantastic, this is unknown here in Barcelona. 1938 is the year of Mussolini´s air raids bombing over the catalan capítol during Spain´s Civil War.
I worked at the Barcelona Hotel from 66 to 69 starting when I was about 16. I was a "pastry boy"; I cut and served 1500 pieces of pastry every day during high season. We had a German pastry master who looked like a German Staff Officer with the blond hair, thick accent and all. He baked from scratch every day the best pastries I've ever had in my life since then, pie, cakes, napoleons, éclairs, etc., all fresh every day. He was kind to us considering he must have known we were the ones slowly depleting his liquor cabinet. I remember the parties held at the basement Randy mentioned. They also had parties for the older folks. These were fun, except me and my friend were the ones that cleaned the mess afterward. No bad memories here either. We broke a lot of glass in a rush to get done, especially after the "grownup" partier since there was usually leftover buzz. we weren't too much into drinking but we did have our fun under the circumstances. I'm very fond of the place and have a lot of good memories but it was only my passage to an eventual engineering career. Wish I could visit again.
What happened to this Hotel??? I was there in the 60's>
